Established in 1969, this is considered the rival pizzeria to Pelham Pizza, dividing the loyal local pizza lovers. Nothing fancy here, no frills, no hoopla, just very simple, basic, quintessentially pure plain traditional circular style pizza. Despite being thinnish, this is more of a “Football Pizza” lacking crispness with soft and tasty dough, not too distinct, very solid but doesn’t scream “made with New York water.” The cheese is a grade above generic, better than standard pizza cheese but an unspectacular blend, somewhat greasy, but mostly manageable. The sauce-to-cheese ratio is on-point, but unfortunately, the sauce falls a little flat, lacking some spice and pizzazz. Not a bad mixture, but certainly not distinctive, definitely doesn’t blow you away with flavor. Overall, this is an extremely solid pie; your prototypical Friday night, set your watch to it, straight fastball down the pipe, good ole reliable neighborhood pizza. I wouldn’t go out of my way for it but it’s very good pizza; just needs a little tweaking with the sauce and crispness. Nonetheless, this pie edges out Pelham Pizza for me by a slim margin.
