A little heavier and doughier than I expected. Nice char and no flop. The crust had a good flavor but no surprise considering how good their cheesesteak rolls are that they bake in house. Cheesesteak was the best one I ever had.

While I think it is hard to give this place a fair review considering the hype, I think Dave was very close with his 9.1. The pizza is absolutely delicious. I agree with Dave that it is the best. Philadelphia has to offer. The key factor here is the taste. The pizza uses the finest and freshest ingredients - and the crust is absolutely heavenly. The sauce is memorable and tangy, while the cheese has a distinct aged flavor. What you’ll notice immediately here is just how flavorful the pizza is. From the sauce, to the cheese, to the dough, each flavor is amplified. It’s almost as if Angelo’s figured out a way to create some sort of flavor dial and boost it all the way to the max. The crust is really something to experience. The pizza is on the thicker side, but your teeth will sink directly into the dough - into it’s soft interior and a crunchy exterior that few pizzerias on earth will equally master. While I am not normally a basil man, the basil on this pizza is welcome addition, considering it cuts the heaviness just a little. With that said, there are a couple of factors that keep this pizza from being a perfect 10. This pizza is very heavy. That comes from the thick dough, the thick sauce, and plentiful cheese- also the amount of oil that exudes from it. Angelo’s Pizza has a very distinctive orange color that comes from the oil sweated from the cheese. It adds flavor, but anything more than a couple of slices will leave you with a heavy, feeling stomach. The sauce is also heavy itself. It’s very hard to describe but the sauce almost tastes like a red Penne vodka sauce. It’s got character and works with the rest of the elements in a truly amazing way. While the heaviness sounds like a put off, it’s worth it. The pizza is that good tasting. If you are in the Philly area, don’t miss this place. Be sure to call ahead (if they answer). If you order the pizza at the counter, be prepared to wait between 20 and 35 minutes for a pie.

Forgot to review when I ate this fresh while visiting Philly. So - pic is after reheated in oven. Delicious pie. Crispy. Some char. And very clearly fresh ingredients. Waited an hour on Saturday afternoon during Taylor Swift weekend. Area is awesome. Italian village. Parking tough, small one way streets. Just walk around, well worth it. Cheesesteak was better than pizza. Pizza legit, cheesesteak ANOTHER LEVEL. Sooooo good. I’ll visit again for sure. Good stuff.

Came for the cheesesteak, stayed for the Grandma Pie. Holy hell. This was impressive. Anything over a 9 is verging on “perfect.” It checks all the boxes. You have to rate this for the pie that it is. It’s thicker than your usual pie. Super fresh ingredients. Great yeasty flavor to the dough. They took their time with this masterwork. Pro-tip: CALL and order before you go. It can take a while, but it’s worth the time.

GREAT PIZZA…. Cheese, sauce, undercarriage, great crunch…I could eat a whole pie in one sitting …it’s also good new morning cold

Pinnacle of pizza in Philadelphia has to go to Angelo’s. This particular pie is the gradmas pie which I think is nothing short of amazing how eve I have to give an extra .1-.2 points to the standard round plain pie. This pie is light and full of flavors and the crust is just something so special. I prefer the outer perimeter with some crust backing so inner slicers are messy and harder handle. That doesn’t mean they taste worse just messy. This is a Philly must experience!!

After seeing Dave’s review, I went out of my way to stop by Angelo’s while I was in Philadelphia. Do I think it’s great pizza? Absolutely. Would I score it in the 9s? Unfortunately, no. When I stopped by Angelo’s, there was a massive crowd. I was worried that there would be a long wait for a pie, but thankfully, they have a huge team working in the kitchen. The team was banging out pizzas in under 30 minutes, so the wait time was very reasonable. Angelo’s is cash only. There’s also no seating in the restaurant, and the inside is extremely cramped. You can’t wait inside for your pizza, so plan to kill some time outside in the meantime. Luckily, the neighborhood is one of the coolest in Philadelphia. The nearby Italian Market has a ton to do/see/eat, and many will recognize it as one of the locations seen in Rocky Balboa’s original training montage. It’s a great place to be. When I came back to pick up my pie, it was a bit of a nightmare trying to make my way to the register. There were loads of 5’3”, insecure, heavily cologned Guidos trying to push their way to the front of the line. Absolutely terrible. Somehow, I was able to wade through the sea of gold chain wearing goombahs and get my pizza. I took the pizza to my car and opened it up. I was immediately impressed by the way the pie looked. Great looking crust, and the ratio of sauce to cheese was perfect. The crust was a little on the tougher side for my liking, but the sauce and cheese were outstanding. However, I didn’t love how they incorporated the basil. The basil at Angelo’s was cooked into the pizza. Personally, I prefer when a Margherita pizza has fresh basil added to it AFTER it’s cooked. When the basil is cooked into it, it loses a lot of the flavor and bite it’s known for. This might seem like a nitpick, but details like this matter when you’re going for a top score. It wasn’t a dealbreaker though, and I truly enjoyed the pizza. After careful analysis and review, I’d give Angelo’s an 8.4 overall. A very fine score, but for me, it’s held back by some of the stylistic choices. A few tweaks, and I would’ve rated it in the high 8s. Either way, Angelo’s is worth the trip, and I would encourage everyone to check it out. The food is delicious, and Philadelphia is an amazing city.

Amazing! The crisp is perfect, undercarriage is perfect, sauce is tasty and the cheese is really good. Good balance of it all. Great pie!

Solid pizza. The cheese and sauce tasted fresh and of high quality. The outer crust had great texture and flavor. My only hit was it felt saucy in the middle and not enough towards the edge and some crust was thicker. But that’s a drawback with some handmade pies. Otherwise one of the best pizzas I’ve had in the Philly and surrounding suburbs. Separately ordered a cheesesteak which was incredible. Ordered over the phone about 20-30 min ahead and no problem picking up. Remember it’s cash only. That’s a bit annoying and also nowhere to sit/eat in the area.
