Pizza Review
SOLID SLICE, sauce is phenomenal and the crisp is on point. HEAVY flop Frankie. 7.5.
Pizza Review
Clearing up a bit of confusion on the OneBite App, this Anthony’s is located in Oakville, not Watertown, CT. Also, there’s 3 artificially inflated scores on here, bolstering the rating into the 8s. That being said, this joint serves made-to-order pizzas, like most pizzerias, but they make it a point to ask how you like your pie. Since I had the option, I chose thin & crispy style. A significantly large pizza, it’s not really New Haven style despite similar slicing. While thinnish, I was hoping for a thinner pie. And even though I specifically ordered it crispy, this pizza couldn’t be floppier…zero crisp with minimal crunch relegated solely to the crust. The dough is mostly soft with an extremely thin cracker-like layer on the undercarriage, making for an interesting texture but completely void of firmness. While the consistency of the dough disappoints, the taste salvages just enough of the score. Heavy & a touch too thick, the cheese appears to be a shredded blend of whole milk mozzarella, melty but quickly congealed & not particularly flavorful. The grease is manageable but adds a salty taste that combats the cheese flavor. Mostly sweet & a tad tangy, the sauce is plenty tasty & in great abundance but not overly voluminous. Hardly an exceptional sauce but not bad either, just a smidge too acidic for my liking. Even though the ingredients aren’t terrible, the lack of crisp really overshadows the other components’ attributes. Not meeting my thin & crispy request led to some real disappointment. Overall, this is a decent pie, nothing special, very much on par with basic football pizza.
