We finally stopped into Assiago’s Italian Restaurant in Raleigh tonight after driving past it countless times since it opened back in the early 2000s — and wow, what a mistake waiting this long!
The pizza was fantastic — exactly what a true New York slice should be: thin, crispy, cheesy, just the right amount of oil dripping off the edge, and big enough to fold in half so you don’t burn your mouth. The sauce had great flavor and balance — you can tell they know what they’re doing.
Service was top notch, friendly and fast. My only regret is passing by this hidden gem on Millbrook (right before you hit Glenwood Ave) for so many years. The dessert counter looked like a dream — we’ll definitely be back to try that next time!
If you love real pizza, skip the chains and go here. You won’t be disappointed.
