Azzurra Pizzeria

Almost all of the reviews here are for specialty pizzas with decent scores, but none for a plain cheese pie. After trying the traditional pizza, I can see why others opt for more exciting slices. This is a fairly standard football pie, boringly basic, plain & pedestrian, Anytown USA pizza. Lacking in crisp & flavor, incredibly heavy and generic; nothing to brag about. The dough is thick, soft and chewy with a slight flop and too much flour underneath and around the crust. The cheese is somewhat thick, quality, not a peasant’s blend, saves the pie from scoring lower. The sauce is present but not when it comes to flavor; in some need of spice, the sauce is terribly bland, does nothing to tantalize the taste buds. I didn’t have high expectations for this joint but I’m rather disappointed to say the least. Maybe their specialty pies are the way to go; but you can skip their dime-a-dozen plain cheese pizza.
