Pizza Review
Established in 1989, this is 1 of 3 Calabria locations in New York, including New City & Garnerville. A very standard-looking football pizza, it’s actually crunchier than it appears. Medium thickness, doughy, with a firmish undercarriage, the texture isn’t particularly crispy but there’s definitely a slightly stale-like crunch in the crust. Aside from being blandly basic, the dough doesn’t have any real char, lacking in crispness & flavor. Most of the other ingredients are similarly subpar starting with the generic & sour-tasting substandard shredded mozzarella blend. Likely a cheaper cheese, it’s also harboring a ton of grease. A sloshy, oily mess, the salty & sour taste kills almost any flavor from the subdued sauce. Lacking potency, void of sweetness or tang, the sauce is just background noise with a smidge of oregano flavor pushing through. Possibly a quantity or quality problem with the sauce, or maybe a little of both. The crunchy texture somewhat salvages the score that is mostly sunk by the taste of the cheese & lack of flavor from the sauce. With several flaws, this pie is in need of significant improvements. As it stands, this is below average, disappointing football pizza.
