Little below average
Pizza Review
Opened under new ownership in 2016, they’ve been serving up fresh Italian cuisine & doughy thickish-looking traditional football pizzas ever since. Heavy & actually only medium thick, the dough is soft, virtually void of crisp, with minimal char & super slight crunch from the fat & doughy crust. A somewhat firmish undercarriage yields mild floppage on a few slices. Blanketing the entire surface is a heavy whole milk shredded mozzarella blend, adding significant weight to the pie. Though creamy & melty with an excessively thick lava-like flow, this feels like an extra cheese pizza, just too much mozz upsetting the overall balance among the dough, sauce & cheese. Bunched up in some areas or sliding off slices in a massive glacier-like manner, I’d much prefer a thinner layer of shredded cheese. Robustly sweet & chunky, the tomato sauce is exploding with flavor; way more saccharine than savory, the sauce has plenty of pizzazz & kick, almost like the kind you’d find on a tomato pie. Easily the best attribute of the pizza, the sauce helps overcome the average dough & ultra thick cheese. With a few tweaks like crisping the dough & dialing back the cheese volume, the sauce can carry this pie into the upper 7s & maybe sniff the 8s. Overall, this is incredibly filling & satisfying better-than-standard football pizza with above average taste & subpar texture. Very good for Central/South Jersey, there’s plenty of potential & room for improvement.
