On the road and heading though Comfort, TX and I stumbled upon Comfort Pizza. This rehabbed gas station is surely the most happening place in town. A wide selection of beers, wine and bubbly all ordered through a walk up counter. I like it already. This place has that weird country charm that gives it such a nice welcoming appeal. Now on to the pizza. This is traditional wood fired, hand tossed pizza. My favorite kind of pizza. Took a look at the pie and it really caught my eye. It was beautiful. Bubbles on almost every slice, cheese looking right. Oh so nice. So I had to dig in. Took my first bite, the cheese was all I had hoped it to be, a delicious blend of salty and creamy. It has to be paired with a bomb ass tangy sauce, surely I thought. But here is where the score drops and my disappointment begins. The sauce was as bland as bland can be. I kept hoping and waiting for the burst of flavor; maybe some garlic, oregano, basil, saltiness, tang, anything. But I waited. And it never came. The pizza has much to be desired, it is beautiful to the eyes, but is shallow and falls short. Maybe one day it’s sauce can mature and in the not so distant future, this pizza will mature and blossom into what it truly can be, a mid-high 8! Comfort Pizza, 6.8. That’s the review! Still a very respectable score!
