Opened in March of 2023, replacing the popular Puzo’s Pizzeria, Delizia’s isn’t exactly a chain but they have 3 other NJ locations in Dover, Flemington & Ledgewood. Seemingly a traditional, standard, North Jersey football pizza, the texture of the dough is extremely disappointing. Super soft, mega mushy, flimsy & floppy, the dough has no backbone as well as an undercarriage lacking any kind of crisp or crunchiness. Thankfully, the relatively thin crust packs decent crunch & mild flavor, easily the best part of the pie. The taste of the dough is about average but not as bad as the uber soft consistency. A melty & basic shredded mozzarella blend, the cheese is drowning in grease. Engulfed by excess oil cascading off each slice, the flavor of the cheese is somewhat masked by the heavy grease flow. Though overly oily, the taste of the mozz isn’t terribly salty, just slightly dulled. However, the sauce seems to be significantly impacted by the extra oil, creating a soupy & watery consistency, lacking heartiness & substance. Loose & flavorless, the sauce is in need of serious seasoning. Void of sweetness, spice or any differentiation from the crushed tomatoes, the subpar sauce requires some garlic powder at the very least to provide a hint of flavor. Overall, this is boringly generic Jersey football pizza with substandard taste & texture. Replacing Puzo’s with this place was a sadly significant downgrade.
