Formerly Tommy’s Pizza, new ownership took over less than a year ago and revamped the entire pizzeria. Like most of the pies I’ve had in the Nyack region, this is a traditional football pizza; the only aspect separating this pie from the others is the outstanding crisp. The dough is very firm, incredibly crispy and crunchy all around, from the center of the pie to the well done crust. The terrific texture is aided by the semolina bread crumbs underneath, preventing any sogginess or moisture buildup. While the texture is tops, the taste is sabotaged by an over abundance of oil. The high volume of grease drowns out any flavor from the sauce and cheese, leaving an unpleasant overly salty taste. Overpowered by oil, the sauce is incredibly difficult to detect; any sweetness is completely neutralized by the saltiness from the grease. The cheese seems pretty basic, also being held hostage by the engulfing grease, can’t pick up any other flavors aside from salt. The crispy dough provides an exceptional base for this pie; unfortunately, the other ingredients are murdered by the excess oil. A softer pizza would probably score somewhere in the 4s or 5s but the excellent texture saves the overall rating. If they get the grease under control and bolster the sauce with some spice, this pizza could level up to somewhere in the 7s; but as it stands, they’ve got some work to do.
