Pizza Review
Was headed home, and got off the highway to stop here. Heard el Presidente’s review. Totally overrated - crust was like cardboard, and too thick. Crust was just ok, and the char on the undercarriage was tasty. Sauce was the right combo of sweet and spicy. Pepperoni was spot on good and was the good small curled up pepperonis not those flat fake ones. Yes, I would have it again, but it’s really not worth getting off the highway, I should’ve headed back to Manhattan for many better choices.

Pizza Review
Established in 1970, Dunwoodie Pizzeria has been serving the Westchester area for over 50 years. Coming into this review, I had lofty expectations for this old school, cash only, fairly hyped joint. As you can see, the box is overstuffed with a very traditional, thickish and surprisingly heavy football pizza. Not exactly a generic pie, but certainly not special in any way, shape or form. The dough is firm and tasty with solid consistency and a decently charred undercarriage; also somewhat soft but just crunchy enough to go along with a lightly crisped crust. The cheese is pretty typical, swallowed in the middle of the pie by a pool of grease. Likely of cheap quality, oozing with oil piled atop the vast majority of the pizza. Not terribly salty, but not quite flavorful either, the shredded mozzarella blend is slightly subpar. The sauce is also disappointingly basic, leaning towards bland and nondescript. Not particularly sweet, not too tangy, and not much overall oomph, the sauce is pizza flavored without an ounce of pizzazz. Overall, this is solid, yet unspectacular football pizza led by the terrifically firm texture but let down by the excess oil and mostly pedestrian flavor of the cheese and sauce. Despite these drawbacks, this is still pretty good pizza, just not exceptional by any means; I’m definitely not going out of my way for it. All in all, it’s slightly underwhelming and a little disappointing based on the high hopes coming into the review, considering the travel-worthy scores from Portnoy and the OneBite community.
