Drove an hour to this joint to see if the hype was real, and it turns out, not so much. I can’t tell what aesthetic this place is really going for, whether it’s fine dining or just a family pizza shop. But when we got there, we were told that a table had a 1 1/2-hour wait ahead. We decided to forgo that line and just get some slices. So let’s dive into the PROS and the CONS.
PROS
The pizza appears very appetizing and looks about as artisanal as you can get. The crust was cooked evenly throughout, besides the char spots that I believe enhance the flavor. The Partanna slice was probably the best flavor of the 3 slices I purchased (pep, cheese, and Partanna). The cheese was alright, but I can’t fairly review it on a slice that’s been sitting there, IMO.
THE CONS
The pizza was moderately floppy. I wasn’t a fan of the sauce; it wasn’t necessarily bad, but it kinda sat in the background while the cheese and dough did all the heavy lifting.
Overall, it’s alright. I know when everyone heard about F&F coming to Pittsburgh, they all got excited for “true NY pizza,” but I believe there are many that do just as well, if not better, like Rockaway, Slice of NY, Slice on Broadway, or SliceHouse.
