Pizza Review
Last night I went to Gioacchino's in Bellwood. Old school place that has been in the neighborhood for over 40 years. I ordered an RC and the waitress brought me a 1 Liter bottle. I went with the Chicago gold medal standard sausage pizza. The crust was your standard Chicago thickness and the crust at the edge was like a nice crunchy breadstick. Pizza was cooked perfectly. There was a little bit of grease but the entire pizza held together well and even the center pieces stayed firm. The cheese had a nice fresh Mozzarella taste. There wasn't much sauce on this pizza and the sauce was muscled out by the sausage. The sausage on this pizza was insane. The pizza had huge pieces of house made Italian sausage that was juicy and full of fennel. The amount of sausage was almost too much. I almost felt like I was eating a Lou Malnati's Chicago Classic with the sausage patty. For sure the most sausage that I've ever had on a thin crust pizza. Overall it was a good pizza and the sausage was outstanding. After I was done eating I spent about 45 minutes talking to the owner Gioacchino who is 73 years old and still works every day. He is a super nice guy and loves to talk about pizza. A great place if you love triple sausage.
