Pizza Review
Spent a lot of time in ROC over the years, and i’ve never given this place a shot. I’ve been tempted because its so close to the hotel that my work has me staying in the last 2 years, except Guiseppes is up the road far enough that you dont have to worry about getting gunned down in the parking lot. I stay on Lyell Ave. What a dump. Anyway, all Guiseppe’s reviews that i seen always made me skeptical. No real good pictures of the pie even on Yelp. So sadly, i never gave it a chance. Isnt the first time i’ve been stupid, and it surely won’t be the last. Guiseppes is located directly across from a Wegmans, tucked away in a nice big plaza with plenty of parking. It’s been around since i believe it said 1927! The reviews might seem unappealing, but any place thats been around almost 100 years, must be doing something right. Guiseppes is a bakery, a restaurant, and a pizzeria. The oven must be seasoned with all the pastries and italian bread rolls. The smell coming off of this pizza was ridiculous. It had all the smells youd think it would have, and then youd get hit with the smell of a fresh baked Sfogliatelle. You even got hints of pastry flavor while eating the pizza, which might sound weird to you, but was actually amazing if you ask me. The dough was fluffy, yet chewy, and a nice thin crunchy layer on the bottom. Unlike anything i’ve ever had, and i’ve had a lot of fuckin pizza. It had an abundance of cheese that gathered towards the center that had a really nice taste with a little funk to it. That funk was from the cheese or cheese blend. You could tell it was high quality whole milk mozz with that slightly greasy high gloss sheen that glistened off my luscious lips as i ate it off the tailgate of my F-150. The sauce was top notch. Great tang and subtle sweetness. I like how its just bright and fresh tasting tomato sauce with no overpowering Italian Herbs. My favorite bites were the uneven, puffy, edges. Crispy dough, sweet and tangy sauce, and buttery cheese. Id say the only complaint is slightly too much cheese in the center, and that cheese may be just a touch on the salty side. Definitely one of the must try places for pizza in the area.
