Good Old Days Pizza & Cocktail Den

Definitely Not Apizza. We got four pies. 3 thin ones and one square thick one. Either a cracker with sauce and cheese or bread with sauce and cheese. Not bad but not a great CT Apizza to go out of your way for that’s for sure. Kind of a fad place & more of a bar. Each pie is way way over priced as well. Extremely friendly service, that was great. Place had nice decorations. Pizza is a 5 a bump up for the friendliness and decorating. A bump down for the price. Also nice glasses the drinks came in.

Round, thin, cheese only. It’s close to perfect. Solid char on the undercarriage. Lots of crisp, even in the middle. They do cheese on the bottom, then sauce, and a little more cheese with a sprinkle of parm (sorry Dave). The sauce is tangy and the sauce/cheese balance is just right for me. Some might find it to be too much sauce, but those people are wrong. The place itself is a great hang. Small bar with a good happy hour and plenty of indoor/outdoor seating for families. Don’t miss this one.

We are spoiled in Connecticut, there is so much good pizza around. Depending on what type of pizza you like you can throw a rock and hit a really good place but this restaurant is unique in my opinion. They have both thin crust round pizza, and they have Detroit style Square pizza. The vibe is 70s themed and they have a really good cocktail bar in the back that's always playing good movies on the TV. The decor is really cool and unique to this restaurant and they have live music on the weekends. The pizza is truly exceptional and offers a menu with many different flavor combinations. Our favorite is the Detroit style bikini bod, which is melted cheese, whipped ricotta, hot honey and I like to add sausage. You also can't go wrong with a thin crust pepperoni with vodka sauce. This is definitely my top three places for Pizza in Newtown.

The pizza here is nearly perfect. Bartenders and drink specials are insane. Best pizza around.

When I say I DREAM about the french onion pizza I’m not kidding. This is one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had. Not usually a deep dish fan but this is unmatched. Chewy but crispy, delicious sweet caramelized onions and gorgeous cheese. Truly a favorite of mine, drooling looking at this pic 🤤

Great crunch and love the tomato seasoning. But on the saltier side so I couldn’t give it an 8.

I HAD to make a separate review for the thick pie variant because this is the popular pie here. This is hands down the best pie around. Thin is solid but this is the ONE. I normally don’t like thick pies and there’s only one on par with this and that’s in Midtown (one of the best pies in NYC, mind you). I obsess with this pie for weeks after. Sauce in particular makes this. Environment is great too, like you went back to the early 90s.

The star of the show was the Detroit style “bikini bod”. Great crust and toppings. The thin crust NY style did not really impress. 7.8 is an overall score.

Place was packed. Super cheesy (in a good way) with that picture perfect cheese pull. Heavy handed with the oregano which dropped the score. Really want to come back and try the square.

Pizza is awesome here. Atmosphere is excellent. A hidden gem!

Thin cheese pizza, 4:30pm on a Wednesday This is a difficult review. Somehow this place went under my radar and a co-worker suggested I check them out seeing as they serve high quality thin round pizzas and thicker square pies. I’m a bar pie fan so I went the thin crispy route. The pizza looks beautiful, it’s an artful pie, cooked really nice and has a good amount of garlic flavor in it. Tasty sauce as well. The reason I didn’t love it is the extra layer of cheese. Not a problem for most, but I’m a rare pizza lover that’s not big into cheese. A standard layer of mozz is great, but the layer under the sauce that bakes into the dough throws me off. I saw an earlier reviewer mentioned there was a second layer in there which should have warned me to stay away and go with the square pie. So for most, this pizza is a legit 8. Unfortunately, I’m just not into it myself

What a great find in an unexpected area! I was going 8.8 on it’s own merit + .1 because the place is really cool and super nice people. They opened early for us and ran after us with leftovers we forgot. The pizza … packed with flavor with the sauce and toppings. The round is a top notch bar pie, cracker thin and crispy. The square is Sicilian style — soft throughout and crispy on the bottom.

Got the “Square Pie”. Sicilian style. The sauce was very good. Slightly well done, which I like. I’m more of a fan of thin crust but this pie was recommended to me. I would definitely go back for the same pie. I’ll be trying the thin crust.
