Opened in the early 2000s, I had high hopes for this little cash-only West Cape May pizzeria. Much to my dismay, I got a thick, heavy, doughy, standard issue football pizza, lacking originality & severely deprived of sauce. Despite a relatively firm undercarriage with decent crisp, the bulk of the dough has a very soft texture along with a minimally crunchy, thick & doughy crust that gives off undercooked vibes. Typical tasting of most football pizzas, the dough has average flavor, not bad, but certainly not distinctive. Adding significant weight to the pie is a heaping amount of shredded mozzarella cheese. I’d expect this kind of volume on an “extra cheese” pizza. Overflowing with a creamy & melty consistency, the cheese blend is also rather salty despite a minimal amount of grease. The saline taste masks the flavor of the mozz as well as overpowers the paltry amount of flavor from the sauce, which is the biggest problem with this pie, the dearth of sauce. Barely visible & even more difficult to detect, the sauce is MIA, ghosting this pizza, leaving it high & dry. Searching for tomato taste in every bite, I can only get a sense of the dough & salty cheese, with just a subtle hint of flavor from the droplets of sauce. Sadly, the scarce amount of sauce sinks the overall score, keeping it out of the 7s despite some otherwise semi-quality components. Add a few ladles of sauce to give this pizza some personality to distinguish itself from other run-of-the-mill generic & boring Cape May football pies. This pizza isn’t terrible, just incredibly disappointing.
