Pizza Review
***UPDATE*** This shop is now called “Pizza & Beer” Served very hot in 1 - 2 minutes with a solid JV crisp and a little Yorktown flop. First Bite Score: 7.8 The sauce is middle of the road with a little tang. The mozzarella is high quality but very oily. The dough is overworked, overcooked and very hard to chew. The undercarriage is unusual. It is split 50/50 with the bottom being very tough and hard, while the top half is more pleasant to eat. There are good levels of salinity and seasoning in this slice. Sub Score: 7.4 If the oil slick can be managed better and the tomato sauce could become slightly more vibrant this would easily be a high 7. The dough should be worked and cooked less to achieve a better outcome. Additional points for me not being able to put the slice down and walk away. One of the better slices in the immediate area. Final score...
Pizza Review
Note: Now called Peekskill Brewery Pizza & Beer. This is the second worst slice I've had yet and the second most *expensive* slice ($3.75 + tax) I've ever eaten. And it's just bland. So what was wrong? Let's get into it… Well, first Peekskill's my hometown. And the Peekskill Brewery's food tries to make "nicer" bar food. So I had some expectation they'd do *something* to "elevate" thier pizza. They don't. Now that's not enough to dock points for me—it's my expectation. But the slice I got was basic and flavorless. I'm telling you it's not even as good as the next 10 pizzeria nearby. They're lucky Four Brothers is up the road. So let's get into specifics. Crust? The crust was cooked medium well. The problem was that it did that techtonic plate thing when I folded it. It collapsed not long after that. Not well seasoned either. I'll give it points for having a somewhat light chew. Though it's not an aerated crust. Sauce? Bland again. My hopes were up th at least the sauce would be abundant but that doesn't matter here. It's under salted and not herbaceous either. It's watery with tomato chunks and tasted like it. Cheese? Oily and greasy and it collapsed the slice. Gobbs low moisture mozzerella. You know, they claim they use a San Marzano tomato sauce. The two No. 10 cans of tomatoes I saw on display I'm guessing are just decoration. Neither of them are San Marzano. One says Alta Cucina. But the taste doesn't match it either. I'm not in the business of skewering these pizzerias and I'm more than sure they do well. But this isn't the place to get a pie from if you fan. Drink and get something else if you're here. Just a boring slice.
