Pizza Review
Joey’s is a new spot where the old Chickie’s used to be. Want to start by saying these slices are different than the last restaurant and wasn’t just a name change. I really liked these. There’s a familiarity to this type of pizza. If you were to show a New Yorker why Chicago thin crust is better, this is what I’d show them. The dough is thin, yet firm and dense. It’s got a slight crunch to it, but not crispy. The savory sauce breaks through the cheese with each bite and tear, but isn’t messy. Very nice caramelization of the cheese; it isn’t stretchy and breaks with the bite. Sausage is nicely seasoned and can taste the fennel. These slices are filling. I put down two but definitely struggled. Anyone who knows Chicago thin crust has had this pizza before. It’s a nostalgia thing. No bull. I dig it. It may be my new go-to lunch spot for slices during the work week. You have to give this place some love. Bonus: they serve RC Cola out of the can. The best.
