🤔 DECEPTICON PIE ALERT 🤔 While this may look like a gorgeous, crispy & crunchy pizza pie, you’ll be disappointed to know the dough is shockingly marshmallow-soft. I was devastated when I picked up my first slice as it flopped limply and lifelessly; as I folded the slice in half, there was no audible crunch from the crust whatsoever. For a joint that’s been around since 1962, I’m in disbelief of how soft their pies are, despite looking like an ultra crispy slice of Heaven. While the pizza passes the eye test, it totally fails the texture test. Uber soft, doughy, chewy and mega floppy, the dough actually has some decent taste but just needs lots more time in the oven or perhaps cooked at a higher temperature. The sauce isn’t bad at all: sweet, pungent, punches through with zesty zip. The cheese is fairly standard but serviceable, a little greasy but manageable. While the sauce pretty much carries the pie, the severely soft dough holds it back significantly. There is clearly a decent amount of flavor to work with overall from each ingredient; but the pie needs some serious crisping to bolster the score. I think there is potential for high 7s here, but as it stands, this is a deceptively sexy-looking but limp 6.9 pizza.
