Pizza Review
Originating in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn in 1967, Krispy pizza has since expanded over the last 50 years to New Jersey locations in Freehold, Jersey City, New Brunswick (Rutgers) and this spot in Old Bridge. Despite being a franchise, they’re more of a neighborhood pizzeria than a low-end chain like Domino’s or Little Caesars. They should really change the name to “Football Pizza,” since the only element of the pie that’s even remotely crispy is the crust. If you’re going to call yourself Krispy, your pizza better be well done, with lots of char and crunch. This is big, round, thick, doughy traditional style football pizza. The undercarriage is firm enough, but not crispy, above average taste, with slight floppage. Despite the lack of crisp, all of the ingredients are very good; this is quality pizza, especially for a “chain.” They use Grande mozzarella, which is top notch, thickish and terrifically tasty. Their sauce is rather sweet, plentiful with a little kick and perfectly distributed in proportion to the thick cheese & dough. They also have some really sharp-looking specialty pizzas including a Grandma pie and 3-sauce trio Sicilian square pie that looks like an Italian flag 🇮🇹. Overall, this is a steady, reliable, straight fastball across the heart of the plate, perfect Friday night neighborhood family pizza. I’m not going out of my way for it, but if you’re in a half hour vicinity of one of these locations, it won’t disappoint. Excellent option if you’re in need of a “pizza fix.”
