I've been coming here pretty much my whole life. Was a regular dinner when visiting my grandparents. I live farther from the area now so it's a treat when I go out there. If I were basing it on nostalgia it would be a 10/10 but I will try to be unbiased here. It's delicious pizza, the dough is great, has a light crisp and nice chew to it. This isn't New Haven so don't expect char or anything like that. The sauce is classic savory and well balanced. The cheese is excellent has a nice pull and the right balance of skin/whole milk so not too greasy. thy have a signature of putting a little cheese over your toppings and it's great. They were probably doing the cup/crisp style of pepperoni long before it was a trend and you won't be disappointed. Whether you get a plain cheese, pepperoni, margherita or any others you’ll be getting great pizza.
Beyond the pizza, dining in is a real treat. The service is professional, the interior is like a time capsule from the 20th century. Their other dishes from the antipasto salad to various pasta dishes are all great in their own right. Worth the trip and drive in traffic every time.
Now a 9.3 may seem too high. But I feel a lot of reviews on here try to gauge what portnoy would give based on his self admitted bias for New Haven being the basis of his scores. For me I take every pizza regardless of style as is and rate it on the factors that make a great pizza regardless of my personal preference.
