Pizza Review
Portnoy said in his Made in New York Pizza review (in defense of Prince Street Pizza) that these pepperoni slices are rare in NYC. Nonsense. You can find these at any Little Italy Pizza location — and there’s at least 11 locations in Manhattan. (Not to mention other smaller pizzerias also.) Crust was somewhat flavorful on the bland NYC scale. They used oil or butter or something to give it more of a pastry texture, where 99% of pizza crust in NYC might as well be Wonder Bread (flour, water, yeast). Another point deducted, because this uses “Fresh mozzarella”. For those who don’t know, “fresh mozzarella” is the biggest scam in NYC pizza. It often comes from the same manufacturers as processed mozzarella, for cheaper. And because it’s “premium”, pizzerias give you less of it, and charge you more. All of these points would be moot — except the low quality stuff you find in NYC literally has less flavor profile, and tastes like watered down processed mozzarella. Pepperoni could have been pre-cooked longer to give it more flavor. Overall, decent. Nothing special.
