Lou Malnati's Pizzeria

Deep Dishes for me usually start at 7.5. This unfortunately is not a solid take on Lou's.

Definitely not downtown Lou’s. Quite disappointed to be honest

So I’m originally from Schererville, but I lived above the Lou’s on State Street in Chicago for a year. I’ve eaten more Lou’s than I should for a lifetime. It’s good. I crave it sometimes. It’s not my favorite, but it’s different and unique enough. Some tips: the thin crust is garbage. Don’t waste your money. Order the deep dish, butter crust, and uncut. It tastes better and travels better. Secondly, you can order crumbled sausage rather than the patty sausage. I prefer it this way because the flavor blends much better. I think the popularity of this Lou’s opening will wear off as it was a madhouse the other night. They forgot the green peppers on my second pizza actually. However, I’d like to remind people to continue supporting the little guys. My favorite spot in the region is just a couple hundred yards down Main. As more of these massive chains move in to the area, don’t forget the mom and pops.

It looks good, right? Not the case...this hardly tastes like Lou’s! I religiously eat at either the State St or Cicero Ave locations and I’m just bewildered at the moment...and it’s not a happy bewildered! This is a lackluster pie ...the sauce is dead, I ate it immediately ...or attempted to as the plasticware that they included ...BROKE when I was trying to cut it! The center bottom of the pie was not crisp but just like an unusually thick hard doughy pile of yuck! This was really terrible and doesn’t deserve to have Lou’s name on it! ...and 14 smackers for this...!? I think me giving this a 3.9 is almost too generous! There needs to be some quality control here!

Deep Dish, not traditional cheese but pretty good.

Little tang in the sauce, fresh ingredients. Solid cheese and a good crust for deep dish. Might get a higher score if I didn’t have to drive half an hour before eating it.
