Pizza Review
Evidently serving the community since 1939, this pizzeria is well established and generating a lot of buzz ever since Jon Stewart convinced Dave Portnoy to give it a try. The rectangle pie appears to be the signature pizza here, so that’s what I decided to rate. Maybe it’s because I came in with high expectations but I found this pie to be very basic and disappointingly underwhelming. The sauce is shockingly bland, lacking in pizzazz, punch and overall flavor. The cheese is also rather generic, no real distinct taste aside from a bit of oregano. The dough is firm, more hard than soft, but not crispy; it’s baked well, no flop, somewhere in between soft and crunchy. Thinnish for a square style pie, not too heavy at all. I think Jon Stewart was doing his friend a favor by bamboozling Portnoy into coming here and Dave was blinded by the celebrity factor when he scored this pizza. This is a solid, yet unspectacular pie, sadly overhyped and not worth traveling long distances for, despite the rave reviews of a select few. Jazz up the sauce, crisp up the pie and maybe we can revisit a rating closer to the 8s.
