Ordered well done. Super greasy. Kinda floppy. Nothing amazing. Nothing terrible. Average but kinda funky pizza

Founded by Anthony Mackrone in 1953, this is the original Mack’s location in Wildwood, NJ that spawned a pizza trilogy family tree with Mack & Manco (now Manco & Manco) in Ocean City, NJ and Mack’s Pizza of Stone Harbor, NJ. A boardwalk pizza pioneer, Tony Mack’s joint is old school, cash only, pizza only and no call-in orders. In 1960, you could get a slice here for 20 cents, now a large pie will run you $20. This pie is very similar to the other pizzas in the Mack Family Tree with a few slight differences. The dough is very thin, fairly floppy, no crisp, a little too soft and soggy, mostly from the landslide of grease weighing the entire pie down. The shredded cheese blend tastes like sharp cheddar mixed with mozzarella, especially the charred cheese on the edges that dripped off; mostly a salty taste, completely overwhelming and drowning in oil, stifling most of the flavor. The sauce is underwhelming, using the same family recipe they use at the Mack’s offshoots, a bitter, tangy sauce lacking in sweetness, dulled by a touch of oregano but mostly overcome by the heavy grease flow here. This is basically Philly pizza at the Jersey Shore. Some locals swear by it, but mostly “Bennys” & “Phillies” flock here in the summer and line up like tourists for pizza that’s a New York 6. While most of the higher ratings are nostalgia-driven, the reality is, this is pretty average pizza, even by boardwalk standards. Mack’s of Stone Harbor is definitely better, way less grease; and this pie is just a notch below Manco & Manco. I respect the history of this pizzeria but it’s not travel worthy and I’m not waiting in long lines to order. Overall, it’s not bad pizza but I expected more from a Jersey Shore landmark.

Settling the debate I gotta give Mack’s the edge. Way more tang to the sauce a thinner crust way more flavor from the cheese with a nice reheat crisping the cheese on the edge. Very solid slice anywere let alone boardwalk slices

Not a big fan of the cheese but the crust and spices are done well. Good flop but could use work.

Good sauce and cheese but very greasy even the plain! Def a good drunk boardwalk pizza needed a little more crisp

Absolute grease ball, but I like that. Sauce again was great, cheese also stood out, cooked perfect, but you gotta like oil. Banger.

Incredibly good. Great flavor, cheese and sauce. Very greasy but I loved the grease. Made it just a little too floppy but it almost didn't matter. So good!

Wasn’t impressed. Had good crust but flavor wasn’t all there.

Just like I remember. This is the best boardwalk pizza period. Sam’s is good but Mack’s is better for sure. Great spices perfect blend and crispy I lived on this stuff in the 80s and so glad it hasn’t changed. Just perfect beach pizza.

Perfectly cooked, undercarriage stiff with a cracker like crunch. Cheese and sauce on point with the taste. Has Sam’s too, pretty good but too floppy and not cooked enough.

Mad grease, guy was kind of rude because they didn't advertise cash only..... No plain to review only pepperoni and white too floppy and sauce had no flavor. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that it's nearing close time but still

The score on here is way too low for how amazing Mack’s pizza is. It’s definitely better the Sam’s. I’ve been going to Mack’s for over 20 years. Amazing each time!

Bad, just bad. Only tradition keeps me coming back. Don’t have to moisturize for two weeks cause of all the grease on my hands. Tried feeding to a seagull, it politely declined. Birch beer is on point 👌🏼

Pizza review from a few days ago on the Boardwalk of Wildwood NJ. I waited 2 years to get here to one of my favorites of all time, and publicly tell the world that they are the greatest. (not exactly happening though) 1. I have new standards since I started pizza reviews so my taste did change a bit. 2. They have 2 locations and I went to both to get a good solid review going. Unfortunitely their South Boardwalk location did not seem to be authentic Macks flavor. 3. I knew Joe Mack, the legend, who started these pizza places here and a couple at other shore points. He once told me the secret to why he is the best. 4. There is grease dripping, dough perfectly baked, and amazing cheese and sauce flavor. 5. South location 8.1 North location 8.8 ( not the highest but almost)
