Pizza Review
Delicious Pizza! We ordered Da Robbie Deniro(Sausage, broccoli rabe. Provolone, fresh Mozz and Marinara) and The Godfather(Thin crust Sicilian, fresh Mozz, Mushrooms,Vodka sauce, basil). Both outstanding pies with again, lots of flavor. This could have easily been an 8.1 but I felt although the Godfather Crust had a nice crunch the rest of the pizza/under carriage was very chewy. Even after crisping up both pizzas in the oven when we got home while the deniro had a nice crispyness the dough of the godfather just didn't impress me. I also feel when paying over $23 or more a piece for Specialty pies there could have been more sausage and broccoli rabe on the deniro, basically don't skimp on the toppings! For that reason only my score was lower. With that being said, still two damn good tasting pizzas and definitely worth trying if you're in the area or want to try something new. Next time we will definitely get the classic round. One bite, everybody knows the rules!
Pizza Review
A little bit of hype surrounding this joint elevated my expectations going into the review. They claim to serve “Brooklyn pizza” but it appears to be more traditional Brooklyn style than classic taste. This is essentially thick, heavy, large & doughy football pizza, stuffed into the box. Aesthetically, it’s somewhat displeasing and sloppy, with the cardboard cover indenting the overflowing crust jammed up against the walls of the box. The pie is well-cooked, firm-ish on some slices, floppy-ish on others, and no crisp or crunch despite a decent char on the undercarriage. The crust is crunchy-ish but that’s only because much of it is charred to the point of burnt. There’s a fine line between a flavorful smokey char and unappealing burnt dough. Aside from the borderline burnt crust, the dough is fairly soft and rather weighty; nothing special, a taste a few notches above bland. The cheese is melty and oozy with a gooey, lava-like flow. A decently flavored shredded mozzarella blend, the cheese is thick with lots of stringy pull. The sauce is relatively sweet with crushed red tomatoes blended along with solid spice and kick that helps carry the pie, despite being slightly unbalanced compared to the volume of cheese. Unfortunately, the partly burnt crust overpowers some of the flavor of the sauce and cheese in a few areas of the pie. Overall, this is your basic, very traditional, large and filling typical football pizza. With lots of room for improvement, this falls in between an average to above average pizza, a category I’d call “average plus.”
