Pizza Review
It’s lacking flavor and as mediocre as most people here have said so far. Know why I think that is? It’s a deli slice. They’re always hit or miss. But they’re hurt even more by the fact that two of the best pies in the area are within a mile of them, Paradise being right around the corner and Baci’s by the Vet. I’m saying this as someone who partly lived in Montrose in the 90s. So why? Main problem with this slice is that it lacks sauce and that really makes it bland tasting. There’s so little I can’t even make my usual comment that about the type of sauce. I think it’s a raw sauce of just crushed tomatoes and oregano. But again, you barely taste it. Cheese? They claim on the menu to use Grande brand low moisture mozzarella—a standard in the pizza industry. I’ll give them doubt’s benefit and assume they do. But when you look at it, it has that undercooked cheese look to it. Reminiscent of school lunch rubbery cheese. It’s not *that* bad. But it borders on that feel even though it was in the oven a while. Crust is just average. It was crispy and had a dark brown bake with some black leoparding on the bottom, which is good. It’s got a minimal cornicione and dried out of sauce toward the back. But it doesn’t have any of the features I like in a crust like being an aerated sourdough crust, or the other side of the spectrum, being razor thin, light and crispy. Anyway, I can’t score it as low as everyone here who has the same opinion. I honestly don’t like One Bite 101 point scale in general, because the system makes people puts too fine a point on things barely that different. Like is there really a difference between a 4.8 and 4.7? Also, shouldn’t 5.0 be the average score for an average pizza? I tried and failed in my early review to stick to that, that’s why a few of my first review scores, even ones with scores higher than what I’m about to give this now, are low. I’m trying to think of some of my lowest non-national chain/locally made pizza scores. This blows away Four Brother’s Pizza in Mahopac, which is glorified made for catering frozen pizza given a 3.4. I remember 901 Wood-Fired pizza was promising but just *collapsed* on me because they make a New York style pizza incompatibly on a Neapolitan crust and I gave that a 6.3. I just went to Peekskill Brewery Pizza a couple weeks ago and they were similarly bad. Antonio’s Pizza in Peekskill (my first review; given a 5.9) is easily better than this. But this is *actually* in that range, I’ll say 6.2.
