🇮🇹BEST NEAPOLITAN PIZZA ALERT🇮🇹 Established in 1919, this joint has been here on Arthur Ave in the Bronx for over 100 years! Along with incredible Italian fare, this old school spot also serves some of the best gas oven Neapolitan style pizza in New York. With a bubbly & crispy undercarriage, the dough has a unique texture & taste, unlike any Neapolitan pie I’ve ever had. Slightly bigger than a personal size pizza, this pie is firm, crispy, light & airy with a uniquely delicious crunchy & bubbly crust, despite the absence of any char underneath. The taste & texture remind me of floury Italian bakery pizza but with a Neapolitan spin. The cheese is seemingly a combo of melted fresh mozzarella & a shredded mozz blend. With a creamy texture, melty consistency, & marvelous milky flavor, the cheese melds well with the thin & crispy dough. Equally outstanding is the light & sweet crushed plum tomato sauce. Complimenting the cheese & dough beautifully, the sauce doesn’t contain too much spice or kick; despite lacking a little punch, there’s still enough flavor here to shine. Because the pie is so light & airy, this makes for an amazing appetizer pizza; a wonderful warmup for the other Italian cuisine here. Overall, the ingredients are pure quality, creating a delectable pie with a terrifically crispy texture to match, putting this pizza on a level most wood-fired pies couldn’t come close to reaching. Without much hype surrounding this place, this is a super sleeper spot on Arthur Ave, serving some of the best pizza in the neighborhood & quite possibly the best crispy & crunchy Neapolitan pies in New York; you can taste the history in every bite! This is must-try, travel-worthy pizza, particularly if you enjoy a firm & crispy Neapolitan style.
