I recently moved here and immediately looked for a decent pizza place. I am beginning to think there is not one. I had high expectations for Megatoppers as most folks in town considered it very good! I had pepperoni and bell peppers, my go to pizza.
The place is pretty nice by River standards with plenty of seating, big screen TVs and a very nice staff. This would be a great place for football, beer, and pizza! I noted the conveyor belt pizza oven as I walked in and knew this was not going to be great. The pizza was definitely made with care. As the name indicates, the toppings were abundant and very fresh. The pizza was not greasy which is hard to do with pepperoni as a topping. Cheese was plentiful and the sauce was just OK. Where this pizza fell down was the crust. It had very little crunch and was pretty bland. I did not order the super thin crust and may do a review of that in the future. The problem is that oven more than anything. A factory like oven gives you a consistent factory like pizza. Better than the chains but not really great. Given the choices on the River I’ve tried so far, I would come back here but it is hardly “great” as I have been told.
