Big slice. This spot is supposed to be one of the best in the area. I found it average.
It's always good to see "Wood Fired" in the name of a pizzeria. At the *minimum* that usually means a good bake on the crust and this did have that.
Crust was really bready and soft. There's a lot to chew into. I'd even say it's a medium thick crust. I can't think of a local joint with regular slices this thick. Nice dark brown bake on the bottom and dusting of cornmeal on the cornicione. But the crust did that thing where is split apart like continents.
Very cheesy slice. I saw that they use only Grande mozzerella but to be honest this was greasy, which happens to slices on the reheat, but Grande is usually good a keeping itself from that.
Sauce? I didn't get a distinct flavor from. Though I saw patches of oregano. Not a chunky or loose sauce, somewhere in between and more typical. Not enough.
People might feel I'm scoring low. Maybe I am. But I start a quintessential NY slice at 7, then I think it over and plus and minus points from there. I think your average review here would go 0.5 higher. But this was a minor disappointment. Just not up my alley.
Worst pizza in Mahopac is Four Brothers and I think I'm even including Domino's. My family usually got Dante's over the years but I've yet to review that. But so far I'm liking Mario's Wood Fired the best here.
