Very good pizza. Make sure to get the red sauce on your pizza. The red sauce is divine and inspired. Takeout was super fast and fresh, whereas Sally’s was an hour and a half and not nearly as good. The red sauce was the pièce de résistance. The maker of this sauce put all their passion into it. The crust was simultaneously crispy, chewy and perfectly thin at the same time. The only reason this didn’t score in the 9’s for me is New Haven style pizza isn’t my favorite, but it is the best of the major pizza spots in New Haven.

This was a conflicting one. For what we got, I was extremely generous and probably overscored. The pie was a greasy floppy mess. I’m not sure if we got a bad pie or if it sat in the box too long, but it did not hold up. However, this was one of the best tasting pizzas I have ever had, purely on flavor. It has the makings of a star, and I gave some points for pure taste and potential, but they need to clean up the consistency.

If we didn’t just get a bad pie then Pres’ score is wayyy too high. If floppy pizza was good then this would be a 10. Taste was mid but seemed like slightly above- average football pizza

Driving thru from Florida figure we placed an order at Sally and the pick up time was 1:30 hrs away might has well go try Modern ! Great pie , great service ! Worth the stop -NS

Perfect balance between New Haven & New York style.Right up there with the best in the world. Modern and Sally’s are the top 2 in my opinion. These spots are neck and neck. Can’t go wrong. 90 year old coal oven. YouTube - Johnsies Food Corner

A little too doughy. Decent undercarriage. Oily. But overall it was good.

Very good pizza although not as good as I was expecting. Crust is exceptional and the cheese is also very good. The sauce is not very flavorful though. I liked this much better than Pepe’s but not as much as Sally’s.

Modern feels a lot more like a place the locals would frequent. Broader menu, simple pie, shorter line. I really enjoyed the pizza. It wasn’t a show stopper but it was good.
