Pizza Review
Not a lot of great reviews for the round pizza here; the square is clearly the star, so that’s what I ordered. Similar to a grandma pie with the thickness of Sicilian style, the cheese is on the bottom and the sauce is on top; so it can be classified as an “Upside Down” pie. The sauce is very good, lots of tang, decent zip, doesn’t totally blow you away but it’s well above average in flavor. Even though the cheese is underneath the sauce, there just isn’t enough. At times it felt like I was eating bread & gravy (that’s right, gravy 🇮🇹). The Parmesan sprinkled on top is very strong, almost overpowering and dominating the overall flavor of the pizza. The corner crust is terrifically crispy & delicious but the middle slices are too soft & spongy. This is essentially NJ’s version of L&B Spumoni Gardens’ square pie in Brooklyn, only not nearly as good. If you get takeout, I suggest adding your own shredded mozzarella on top and baking in the oven at bit longer to crisp it all up; then you could be looking at a score in the high 8s. As it is, it’s a nice change of pace pizza that’s very filling with room for some improvements.
