Pizza Review
Went here Sunday where they do 1/2 off your slice just to try, right before Calabria down the road. Both slices were right in line with the average I expect. First off, thin large slices. Reminds me of a Bronx style. I liked that. Browned and black leoparding on the underside, thin but the slices holds up, and was pretty crispy as another plus. Minuses were it was greasy, probably also because of the reheat, and didn’t have enough (or tasty enough) sauce. It’s partly a stylistic thing, but I get the sense its straight from the can sauce not much seasoned. Other thing to mention? I did like the amount of mozzarella, which wasn’t too much. It’s just the normal low moisture mozzarella probably full fat type that most places use. No oregano or basil to add to the flavor either. Anyway, worst score I’ve given in this area was surprisingly the wood fired pizzeria, Novacento/901 Wood Burning Kitchen and Bar, because multiple slices of their whole NY style pie collapsed on me and you can tell it was average tasting anyway. This beats that easily. But it barely stands out in this style either. I’d be happy to eat this slice. But in this Bronx style I’d slightly prefer Amici’s in Peekskill, think Paradise in Verplanck is better, and if you want a really crispy but similar widely thin, light sauce but saucier pie, go to Johnny’s in Mount Vernon.
