Nice crispy pizza. It was thin, cheesy, but the Elkin style wings stole the show. We enjoyed this place more than we did Kinchley‘s Tavern, and the waitress here was absolutely phenomenal.

Classic Jersey bar pie. Possibly could’ve been in the 8’s if just a tad bit crispier, little more flavor, saltiness in the cheese, which is to my liking in particular. Possibly cooked a few minutes longer to get a little more char and a little less soupy in the center, but overall, great thin crust, flavorful tomatoe sauce. Really like this spot for its pizza, not sure I can say the same about some of the people who are the hostess. Let’s just say, DoNot! Move to another table without saying something, even if it’s one table over and the place is practically empty. But, pizza is wonderful.

Good bar pie, top was cooked perfectly. Bottom had some serious char, which I wasn’t a fan of. Good amount of cheese which is rare in a bar pie, but the sauce could use more of a tang punch, overall good pie. Came here during the Friday night Lent dinner rush, so it might explain the burnt bottom. Would go again. Crust was pretty great.

Better than mountain, but not better than much more. Crispy pita base, bland sauces. Solid local, hungover pie. Service didn’t help the cause

Great spot, Love how the pizza was very thin but wasn’t like a cracker. Crust was tasty and sauce was good. Really enjoyed it. Also the wings were solid. Nelly’s Caesar salad on point! Would visit this place again and again if I still lived in Bergen County.

Very good pizza. Paper thin, crispy, overall very nice bar pie. When it came out, I was worried about the crisp and flop since it looks pretty soupy and undercooked, but it was definitely crispy enough. Sauce is very robust and cheese is solid. Overall knocking on the door of the 8s, but could’ve used one or two more minutes

Was given, like, five baby slices. Bar pie is not my style. But this one was different than the others at the One Bite Fest. It's less well-done on top. It obviously has more of an actual end crust. And you can more distinctly taste the oregano and spices in the sauce. Actually like it better than the others, it also holds up better cooled down. Still not my style. This and Colony Grill were my two favorite bars from a style I dislike.

Nothing to write home about. Slice presented well, almost no flop and was just OK. Much more cheese than sauce and could have used more seasonings including a some salt.

Had to give Nellies Place a try after learning its the rival to Kinchleys. I first tried a plain fra diablo. I like the crust and structure of the slice where theres no flop. This pie is more of a cheesy pie than a saucy pie. I do tend to prefer a more saucy pie, but the cheese was tasty. I also tried the pepperoni and sausage and I gotta say the toppings blend extremely well with the cheese. The pepperoni and sausage pizza was far better than the plain fra diablo. Overall, this was a good pie, but it doesn’t reach Kinchleys level in my opinion.

Established in 1989, Nellie’s is known for their thin crust bar pies. A large pizza comes in at 14” so they’re shareable or personal sized depending on your appetite. This pizza has all the attributes of a quality bar pie, starting with a thin, cracker-like dough, along with a firm and well-charred, slightly burnt but manageable undercarriage. Terrific texture and taste from the dough, leading to outstanding crispy and quintessential bar pie crust. Somewhat thicker than typical bar pie cheese, the blend is classically rigid and tight. A decently tasty shredded cheese, it’s practically plastered on, hugging the dough tightly. The sauce is tangy and sweet but also has a hint of bitterness, likely from oregano. A somewhat simple sauce, it deceptively looks like baked ketchup; but with a fair amount of flavor and spices, it’s a quality tomato blend. The only real issue is the thickness of the cheese throwing off the balance among the dough and sauce. Either dial back the quantity of cheese or add a smidge more sauce to balance the pie better. While this is not quite destination bar pie, it’s very solid overall. This is blue collar, any day of the week, sober or drunk, quality bar pie. I really enjoyed the texture and taste; with a few minor adjustments, this pizza could easily level up. All in all, this pie lived up to my expectations but did not exceed them.
