Nonna’s Pizza “A Taste of Italy”

It looked like an Italian pizza. It had mid flop. Not too greasy. Overall, pretty good.

The pizza was perfect! The sauce, the cheese and the crunch was spot on. Steak sandwiches were mouth watering, as well. Can’t wait to go back to try the meatballs.

Definitely lives up to the score. Ordered mine well done and asked them to hold the basil (sue me, I don't wanna chew on leaves when I eat pizza). Crust is really damn good; pretty much no flop at all, very crisp, great flavor. Sauce and seasoning was super tasty, just enough cheese. Just one hell of a pie top to bottom. I try to make it a point to try new pizza spots every week or so, and South Jersey is full of extremely "acceptable" pizza; stuff that's good, rarely bad, but usually nothing mind blowing. This place is, fortunately, well above that bar.

Opened in April of 2023, this joint hasn’t even been around for a full year yet. Evidently they specialize in Roman style pizza according to their Instagram, which I did not know before ordering this traditional round classic cheese pizza. Somewhat oblong & oval-shaped, this is super soft & mega doughy South Jersey football pizza. Substantially thick, fairly firm & very filling, the dough is moderately tasty, with minimal crisp & mediocre char. The pillowy soft crust is uber thick, packing just the slightest crunch. They claim to use Grande mozzarella but I didn’t see the signature sticker on the outside of the pizza box. Melted well & modestly creamy, the cheese tasted like a pretty standard shredded mozzarella blend. Not particularly harboring any grease, the salty flavor in the mozz must come from the seasoning atop the pie. Mild & mostly subdued, the sauce is way more savory than sweet with a strong garlic flavor. Incredibly light, they say they use crushed plum tomatoes imported from Italy which are strangely void of sweetness, overpowered by salty & garlicky flavors. This is an unbalanced pie, with way more cheese than sauce & far too much crust. The fresh basil seems oddly out of place, as if it was thrown on the football pizza haphazardly. Overall, this is a solid but far from spectacular pie, very good for South Jersey but barely above basic in the big picture pizza game. Maybe their Roman style is the way to go here; they also tout their cheesesteaks, specialty sandwiches & “award-winning” meatballs. Perhaps some of these other items are worth a try; but their regular round pies are nothing to write home about.

The day I’ve been waiting for my whole life. Nonna’s pizza comes to Deptford New Jersey after me living here for 24 years and I have to say it is THE BEST pizza around hands down. I highly recommend you coming in and trying it out you will NOT be disappointed.

For starters, this is the heaviest slice I’ve ever held. It literally weighs like a pound. That being said it was cooked good and was crispy. A little bit greasy. Great sauce. Good cheese blend. Good crunch. Joey Merlino sent me.

I am a pizza guy always trying to find the best pizza while traveling for work. Eat pizza all the time. I'm not one to put up reviews but today I just found the best pizza I ever had and it's not close. If prez ever comes here the secret will be out. Best pizza in NJ sorry deluccias is dog sh!t compared to Nonnas
