O’scugnizzo (oh ski neats) heard pres stopped in so I had to. drove an hour with high expectations. Place appeared fully original on the outside so you know it’s gonna be good. Talked to the owners daughter who was slinging pies and she told me they’ve been in business almost 108 years and that they’re the second oldest pizzeria in the country. They still make there pie the same way they did when they started which is absolutely incredible. Everywhere I turned there was a story from the photos on the wall to the guy walking in picking up a pie that he hadn’t had since he got out of jail in 2000. Just a great overall experience. Crust was absolutely fantastic ZERO flop stiff as a board slice. Cheese was good sauce was homemade and the grated parm on top really did the trick. This thing is made with love by hand from top to bottom. Not my style that I was raised on but I respect the hell out of it. Such a cool place with great people will drive an hour to come back. Stopped off while traveling home on a long trip because only 8+ Dave pizza on the route. Never had an upside down style pizza before, not my preference. But have to say sauce is 9/10. Love the history of the place, plus close to highway. Score is based on pizza only.

I badly wanted to like this but it’s just not that good. The sauce was nice, the cheese was fine but truthfully a little strange and it peeled right off the pizza. The crust tasted like Ellio’s. The pizza tasted like if you went to the Ellio’s factory and had them make you a fresh pie. If this was my local spot and i never left my hometown I’d probably think it was the best thing on earth

I ordered this upside down sausage pizza and the taste, aroma, and texture was fabulous! Not very crunchy but not doughy either. This is one of many pizzerias in Central New York that specializes in the upside down square Sicilian style pie. I grew up in Utica NY on this style of pizza. Neopolitan pizza takes a back seat to this one every time for me! 😋

Just short of greatness here. The entire idea is perfect and the quantities are perfect. Crust - crispy but not thin. It’s like a cracker or like a hard end of fresh baked baguette (not in a bad way) holds all the sauce. Sauce - quantity incredible. But this is where it fell in my opinion. I like a sweeter sauce or something with some personality and this sauce has the personality of a soho model. Cheese - thin layer of mozzarella on bottom. Nice and quiet and smooth. Topped with salty parm. Great idea. Find execution / quality but nothing spectacular. Everything could be a smidge better, crust a little softer, sauce bolder, cheese a little bit more noticeable on the mozzarella front.

Upside down style. Good crisp on the undercarriage, great flavor on the sauce. Very well rounded slice where the sauce is the boss. No bonus points for being the second oldest in the country though.

This was really weird. It tastes exactly like when you make a pizza at home, for better or worse. I started doing that in the pandemic and this pizza, the crust, the sauce, and the cheese is exactly what that tasted like.

Definitely different. It was crispy, sauce was good. Probably sat in the box too long which was my fault. If you like Utica upside-down then it’s a must have. Because it’s the second oldest pizza place in the country, it’s a must try anyway

The second oldest pizzeria in the nation did not disappoint. The sauce is amazing! The mozzarella underneath had a good pull. The crispy crust is perfect.

So maybe the score was because I was expecting more because of the reviews. The crust was perfect and it was cooked just right the only negative was the sauce it wasn’t my favorite. I’ve had better!

Legendary review!!! Around since 1914 and billed as the second oldest pizza place in the country, O Scugnizzo’s upsidedown square pie is one of those places that you just have to hit. The crust has a great crunch in each bite even on the center slices which I have to say we’re the best and had nice flavor. The sliced mozz is up next melding itself to the crust and adds a nice stretch to each bite but the sauce is what puts asses in the seats here. Nice herbation and a sweet tang is complimented to perfection by the healthy dusting of grated cheese setting this pie off!! Thickness of the pie kinda falls between grandma and Sicilian, on the denser side and really stands out kind of it’s own thing and it held it’s heat very well as I killed 3/4 before I noticed it starting to cool off. Very oldschool feel inside great friendly staff and service and worth the almost 4 hour drive to murder this landmark pizza!!!! Destination spot for sure.

I finally made my way off the Thruway in the Utica today to go to my son’s lacrosse game. This pie has been a bucket list one and it lived up to expectations. I have never had a upside down pizza before, but I enjoyed the style. I was most impressed by the crust of the pizza. It was thick, but it was very very crunchy and my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I just had a huge plate of spaghetti with sauce, cheese and Parmesan…minus the spaghetti. Meh🤨 8.8 for the Utica Club beer though
