My Brother Eddie and I are faithful Loyalists to Papa’s Pizza on Naugutuck Avenue in Milford CT. The Head Pizza Maker name is Russ, he is the Maestro of Pizza. Noone can compare to The Pizza made by Russ. Papa’s is known for their Wooster Street New Haven Style Pizza, without the long lines and long waits. It is a Takeout Only Pizza Place , but does have a few Picnic Tables outside for those who would like to eat out fresh from the ovens. Just a little background on my brother and I....We are Diehard Pizza Fans and have traveled good distances to try all kinds of pizza...None can compare to Papa’s Pizza in Milford CT And just to let everyone know, Papa’s Pizza is not a local place to us... It’s a good 30 Minutes Drive with traffic to get there and another Half Hour back home to sink our teeth into this Creation from the Heavens!!! There mist be 30-40 Pizza Places if not more, thats just a count off the top of my head, and NONE can Compare!!! Hey El Presidente David!!!...please, if you can, try this place I’m your travels for i have watched each one of your reviews, and know the style pizza you like is the very same kind of baked pizza my brother and I love. As for anyone else reading this review???...Please, if you have not tried Papa’s Pizza as of yet and are a true connoisseur of True New Haven Style Pizza!!!... please give them a try! Make sure to tell Russ that the Boys from Trumbull, Kevin and Eddie, recommended going to him!!! Truly The Best!!!!

Billed as one of the best pizzas outside of new haven the hype for Papas was palpable. To say it blew away my expectations and most of the roof of my mouth is an understatement as the take out only pie retained maximum heat on a windy 50 degree day. The crust is thinner than expected in the best ways and holds up to the plentiful amount of cheese and sauce with an amazing crunch to each bite and a coal fired taste to the charred undercarriage with some nice pocketing and airyness on the back end. This is a cheese heavy pie and I say that as a compliment as it reminds me of the perfect old school Friday pies that had melty cheese dripping from every bite without overpowering the other ingredients. The sauce while not as abundant as the cheese is still plentiful and crazy tangy with the help of some hard cheese melding perfectly from the well done cook for that lava like first few bites I kill for and really keeps the pie juicy. Easily one of the best travel worthy pizzas in the region with a coal fired aftertaste that If it were located on Wooster everyone would slot it in with Modern, Sally’s and Pepe’s.

Got a large cheese pie and a large pepperoni with broccoli for dinner. Delicious had a good undercarriage, Cheese and the sauce were good. Broccoli was a game changer with the pepperoni! Bring cash if you want a tee shirt. Good pizza that’s close to the beach.

If you’re looking for brick oven New Haven style pizza on the outskirts of “The Pizza Mecca,” Papa’s is about as close as it gets, with much shorter wait times and a takeout only window. Possessing exceptional char & smashing smokey flavor, the dough is firm, crisped and crunchy. The undercarriage has terrific texture and sublime sturdiness, a beautiful base for the other ingredients. The uber crunchy crust is heavily charred but not burnt. The cheese blend has incredible flavor, very similar to Modern Apizza’s taste. A little thick & heavy and not quite melted as well I as like, but the mozzarella is delectably delicious. Keeping up with the dough & cheese, the sauce is also sensational. Zesty, sweet, bursting with tomato flavor, the sauce definitely dazzles, complimenting the dough & cheese wonderfully, with plenty of pizzazz. Tremendous texture and taste all around, this is a very consistent pie. With manageable grease and minimal flop, there’s not much to complain about. Maybe dial back the amount of cheese just a bit and this could very easily be a Hall of Fame pie. But as it stands, this is certainly travel-worthy pizza, deserving of more hype. Seemingly somewhat underrated, despite some relatively high scores; I guess those who know, know. Make no mistake about it, this is as close to good as New Haven style pizza gets outside of New Haven.

Best pizza I have had in CT. Better than Sally’s and Pepes. Cheese has excellent flavor, not too saucy but sauce has good flavor. And perfect amount of grease that doesn’t drip. Good crunch and light dough.
