Pizza Review
There’s a ton of hype surrounding Paulie Gee’s and his Slice Shop. Because expectations are so high, I find this pizza to be a little overrated. Don’t get me wrong, it’s very good; but it’s not even close to best in NYC good. First of all, the slices are HUGE. You definitely get a ton of bang for the buck. The dough is slightly above average, very firm, with almost no flop. The cheese to sauce ratio is near perfect; however, there is nothing special about either one. The sauce is solid, yet unspectacular, lacking any pizzazz. The cheese is fairly generic, with a light dusting of pecorino romano to give it a tad more flavor. I don’t know how, but the crust is somewhat crispy and also a tad rubbery; not the worst crust, but room for improvement. Overall, this is a very solid pie; but you can find several better pizzerias in Brooklyn alone. Because they offer vegan options, the Hipsters are always out here in full force, which leads to long lines and waits. It’s worth a try if you’re in the neighborhood, but I wouldn’t go out of my way...don’t believe the hype.
