Pizza Review
This West Nyack location was established in 1992 by Rich Genova but has its roots stemming from his father’s original Pizzarena location in the Bronx, founded by Contino Genova in 1962. Consistent with many of the other Nyack region pizzas, this is a traditional, round, soft & doughy football style pizza. The dough is somewhat fluffy, not super floppy or soggy, just firm enough without any crisp, with a disappointingly bland taste. Oddly, the crust is softer than the center dough, which seems nearly impossible. The sauce is very basic, not particularly sweet, lacking spice, has no oomph, nothing distinguishable. The cheese is soft & somewhat creamy but not especially tasty, borderline subpar in both taste and texture. There’s only one wildly high score with several reasonable 7s given out by the OneBite community. This isn’t terrible pizza but it’s not that good either…slightly substandard is a fair assessment. The Nyack region is filled with mostly soft and doughy football pizza; and this pie does not buck the trend. Definitely need more flavor from the generic sauce; and the dough is in desperate need of crisping, particularly the crust. Improve those areas and this pizza could likely earn a spot in the 7s.
