Ray's Pizza

Crust is fairly lackluster and somewhat spongy, tomato sauce is pretty dull but the oregano the cheese slice comes with adds a bit to it. Not great and not terrible in terms of the pizza itself, but a great hangout spot and a great owner.

Definitely worth a visit. The sauce leaves a lot left to be desired, but the undercarriage is New York style with a decent crunch — any LA pizza connoisseur would enjoy a slice here as it’s the closest to a classic “dollar slice” you’ll probably get in the area. With that being said, for $4 a slice, maybe Ray’s Pizza is better left as a “one time thing” until he figures out how to add more flavor to his flavorless sauce. Great potential to be in the high 7’s, dare I say even low 8’s, if Ray can figure out how to make his tomato sauce pop. For now, it’s just a mediocre sauce on quite-good dough. A little more crisp to the crust and a tangier sauce and this pie could be the best in the LA area overnight. (LA scoring for the 7.6)

Great location on the UCI campus. The cashier (who I have to assume is Ray) is a very nice elderly man. Slices were ready to go and beer was cold. Crust reminds me of davanni’s, which is one of my favorites texture-wise. I wish there was a little more flavor in the sauce, but all around a pretty good experience.

This pie right here got some good flavor. Realistically it checks all the boxes. Service was super fast, like i’m talking sub 2 minute prep time. Overall decent slice.

Pizza came out a little cold but not cold enough to have any complaints. The sauce was solid and definitely had a unique flavor. Nothing special about the crust or the cheese however.

Good pizza for a local in the area. Little on the greasy side, and they sprinkle what I think is Italian seasoning at the end. I liked the taste and amount of crunch, could have had a little more of defined crust and it would be in the 7s.. Not too much to talk about here, but if you’re in the area you might give it go. One bite 6.9 that’s the review.

Ran into this place while working. Thought it was the same as the one in NY. A bit disappointed. Nothing to write home about.
