🏖️BEACH PIZZA ALERT🏖️ Formerly Harvey Cedars Pizza, which focused more on serving ice cream than good pizza, changed ownership in 2022, putting the focus back on producing quality pies & slices. I’m old enough to remember when this joint was called “The Ship’s Wheel,” selling candy, magazines, whiffle balls & other sundries. Right off the bat, I could already tell the look & smell of this pizza is 1,000 times better than the pies they used to output when it was Harvey Cedars Pizza, now with more of a beach football pizza style. Very basic, simple & standard, this is quintessential Jersey Shore grab & go traditional boardwalk-esque pizza. With zero flop, the dough is fairly firm despite a soft texture, but more chewy than crispy, lacking crunch in the body of the pie. Void of char with a slightly undercooked undercarriage, the bulk of the crunchiness can be found in the crust, which is of medium thickness & rather tasty. A mostly melty shredded mozzarella blend, the cheese is a smidge above average with decent flavor & flow, very typical football pizza mozz. Richly red & hiding in plain sight, the sauce isn’t particularly powerful; however it has sneaky delicious attributes that don’t necessarily pop but subtly surface with each bite. Sweet & mildly tangy with subdued zest, the sauce could use a tad more seasoning. While it won’t blow you away, the tomato sauce blend is substantial enough to make a positive impact & is well-balanced among the dough & cheese. All in all, this is solid shore pizza, especially for LBI, not quite worth going out of your way to try but more than adequate if you’re craving a slice coming off the beach. A massive upgrade from the pizza they used to serve here pre-pandemic, this is quality Jersey Shore football pizza that will leave you satisfied.
