My next target was Red Boy Pizza. Red Boy claims they are the “Home of the Sourdough Crust” and I was excited to expand my knowledge and taste of that claim. Red Boy is also a classic having being founded in 1969 so I expected great things.
Everything I expected was true. The classic oven baked pizza tasted like it had been perfected everyday since 1969. Although classic, the slice had its own unique sourdough crust. The crust provided a firm structure for the thick cheese to lie on. Unlike most pizza, the cheese survived the slide test (holding slice upside down to see if cheese slides off). However, what made the pizza great was the sauce. The tomato’s used to produce the sauce must have been grown in some magical place because I felt magical eating it. It was the perfect mix between flavorful and fresh. I really enjoyed the sauce.
The only minor issue I had with Red Boy was the crust. I’m not much of a hard crust kind of guy and that’s what was given to me. That’s okay though.
