Pizza Review
Alright. I’ve ended up at Rey’s on a handful of drunken adventures. Even with absurd amounts of alcohol in my system, I’ve never had fond memories of these pies. Which is to say, it’s not even good drunk pizza, which arguably is what most 24 hour joints aspire to be. I went completely sober today and in broad daylight. Maybe I needed to approach this pizza with a clear mind and maybe this place deserves a clean slate. Well. I ordered the personal cheese pizza and some garlic rolls. Honestly, it feels like a crossbreed of public school pizza and Dollar Tree brand frozen pizza. (Is there a difference?) That said, it wasn’t awful. Pretty good-tasting cheese. The cheese REALLY carried the pizza into its middle of the line score. But like most Cuban style pizzas, it’s just too damn doughy. The sauce, despite featuring heavy, lacked much of a flavor profile. Lacked and sort of crispy crust. Again, just too damn doughy. Maybe if I’d asked for it well done it could have been a little more enjoyable. But maybes don’t translate to taste. 5.1 because I honestly can’t say it was awful, but that’s as far as I’ll go.
