Pizza Review
The original Roman’s Pizza House opened in Cape May, NJ in 2015; since then, they have expanded to this Absecon spot in 2017. This has the feel of a pizzeria trying to become a franchise, with the hopes of being better than a chain like Domino’s or Little Caesars. I ordered a plain cheese pizza and that’s exactly what this is…plain. This is about as basic as South Jersey football pizza gets, with medium thickness, boringly bland dough that’s mostly soft, aside from the crust that packs a slight crunch & has subpar flavor. Moderately floppy, the undercarriage lacks char & firmness. A disappointingly generic shredded mozzarella blend, the cheese is salty, lacking creaminess & harboring a vat of grease, not completely out of control, but a substantial oil flow that’s just a smidge less than manageable. The sauce is seriously subdued, more salty than sweet with an overpowering oregano flavor that drowns out the taste of the other ingredients. Not a very hearty blend, the sauce is a more liquidy tomato paste that’s been watered down & rendered powerless. With the sauce not having much of a presence & the other attributes falling flat as well, the pie lacks personality. All in all, this is forgettable, dime-a-dozen football pizza; not entirely terrible for this area of South Jersey, but certainly nothing special. While they may have franchise aspirations, this has the look, feel & taste of less-than-desirable chain pizza.
