Santillo's Brick Oven Pizza

This was a must for anybody who loves the one bite pizza reviews. Was so excited to meet Al (couldn’t be cooler) and try this pizza. This would have easily been in the 8’s if it wasn’t for the corn meal used on the crust, ruined the texture for me bit that’s just purely preference. Cheese and crisp were top notch!

The 1964 style is one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had. I can’t understand some of the negative reviews on here. The pizza had great flavor, was made well done with excellent crisp, and had no flop. Also, the history of this place and Al add so much to the experience of getting pizza from Santillo’s. Definitely is a must stop for any pizza connoisseur!

Horrible!! “One bite” is all I needed. If you like a burnt pie with a dough that has the texture of carpet padding, cheese doused in oregano and other odd spices, a heartburn causing tomato sauce that makes Ragu taste award winning, and a tooth-breaking crust, this pie is for you. If you prefer pizza, look elsewhere. I can still taste the back of the brick oven that even the best electric toothbrush can’t eradicate.

Gambino says: The pizza is as good as the neighborhood it's in...Had very high hopes for this pizza, but unfortunately, this falls short of the Portnoy hype. The crust was crunchy, but didn't taste great. The biggest negative is the sauce that left a bad aftertaste that even Listerine had difficulty taming. I will not go back and do not recommend it! Disappointing!

1964 pie, very good, thin, flavorful and crunchy. Cash only, exact change, $25, I only had 20’s on me and 3 ones. He let me have it he said bring the $2 next time.

Very good Sicilian, great crust and cheese. Sauce was good, not great. Very pricey.

I must say this place has got to be one of my favorite pizza places so far in New Jersey. I ventured out here from the Lake Hopatcong area with my 3 year old daughter. Due to the pandemic this place is a take out only and possibly delivery(not sure). I called ahead and had to bring exact change. Upon arriving at the side door I understood why. You put the money in this tube that leads to a plastic container. The man was very helpful. He saw me struggling with my daughter, and preceded to walk the from the restaurant with my pizzas and said where are you parked. I was very grateful for that. I ordered two pies the 1967 more sauce less cheese and the regular 1/2 cheese 1/2 meatball pie. Before the trek home my daughter and I decided to try some slices while it was still fresh. The sauce is one of the most genuine sauces I have had on a pizza and the crust was cooked crispy just the way I like it. You not only got my approval but you got the approval of my daughter as well. Thanks for helping.

Expensive and the sauce tasted like bowling alley pizza which isn’t a bad thing but definitely different for New Jersey. Couldn’t tell if they put olive oil on this one

Ok you know when you go to the fancy restaurant and leave underwhelmed. Al’s barstool review is ABSOLUTELY LEGENDARY The garlic bread was electric the pizza had nice crisp but the sauce was different and not my cup of tea. At least I got the real 🇮🇹 shit

Wow, what a disappointment - way over cooked & beyond crisp (burnt). Their ego demands $25 per pie (today anyway - I paid it), buy the pie I had back in 1975 @ the Perth Amboy roller rink was better back then & probably would be better today too!
