Established in 1970, this joint is family owned & operated with over 50 years in the pizza biz. Offering several different styles of pizza, their traditional pie is standard football pizza. Super soft with moderate flop, it’s a somewhat thick and heavy pie, with plenty of cheese and a thick crust with minimal crunch. The texture of the dough is strange; the undercarriage is dry and fairly firm but the dough ripped and tore apart with each bite, which was neither crispy, nor chewy. It kind of just fell apart in a weak, flimsy, sloppy, soggy mess. Much of the sogginess is due to the watery sauce, which may result from the moisture in the mozzarella. Lacking in heartiness, the sauce is also bland, like watered down tomato paste, dull and in need of spicing. They use Grande mozzarella, which is top quality, just a little too much, overpowering the flavor of the sauce; but it’s creamy & melty and one of the better aspects of the pie. Overall, this is unspectacularly basic football pizza with plenty of room for improvement. The dough needs significant crisping and the sauce needs to kick it up a notch to push this rating into the 7s.
