Spuntino Pizza

I'm back in chicago, so I decided to try another deep dish. Spuntino Pizza was walking distance from my hotel, so i gave them a try. I got a 10" deep dish with pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, green peppers, onions, and chicken for just under $30; a great price in chicago. I asked for well done, but the crust was only slightly brown. But I know it is harder to do well done with a deep dish. The cheese is absolutely fantastic, some of the best I have had on a pizza. And there is plenty of it. Sauce is also plentiful and adds some spices to the pizza. The toppings are average quality but solid. And this pizza is a 10", but like most deep dishes it's enough for 2-3 people. Overall great pizza and a great choice if nearby.

Went to Spuntino's and ordered the Chicago gold medal standard cheese and sausage pizza. The crust was thin and very crispy. The sauce was more like a marinara sauce and contained a good amount of oregano and other spices. Big chunks of Italian sausage loaded with fennel. A quality cheese and no grease. This is an underrated place. I really liked the pizza and I think that this place deserves more attention. On a side note, the manager Nick is a super nice guy and he likes to talk pizza. I will have no problem making the drive out there for another delicious pizza.

Great Chicago pub-style. Sweet sauce, crispy edges, no skimping on the cheese.

If you need to feed a party, they will make sure everyone leaves satisfied.

The crust was crispy, cook right, but no taste. Good cheese, price is right. Its one of those places you drive past when hungry and say "eh why not?"

Spuntinos was served at Maine south high school. Cold, grease, and flavorless.

Stopped into Spuntino's on my lunch break to get some slices. There are about 8 or so tables with a walk-up counter. I ordered the two slice and drink combo which came in at $8 and change which is an awesome deal. Single slices with one topping are $3.50. That is pretty hard to beat when one slice is substantial enough to fill you up. The pizza itself is about average in my opinion. It has a familiarity that is satisfying without knocking your socks off. The pizza came out within a minute of me ordering it. It looked and tasted fresh as people were in an out during the 11:30-12:30 lunch break time. There were a lot of local business people coming in, so Spuntino's definitely has a following, which means the food is fresh. The thin crust was on the thicker side of your typical slice. This isn't NY style where you can fold it in half. It is almost too thick for that. As I said before, the pizza flavor is familiar to the casual pizza lover. Average amount of cheese covered the majority of the slice, and covering the sauce, which could have used a little more to taste less like cheesey bread, although the sauce had a standard savory flavor. Pepperoni was thin and added a little saltiness, where the sausage had just enough Italian seasoning to distinguish it from standard pork sausage. Overall, Spuntino's is quick, cheap, and gets the job done. Check it out if you're in the area and aren't trying to be adventurous with your pizza choice. Spuntino's will satisfy your appetite.
