Great deep dish style pizza here. Excellent sauce. Good cheese and crust. We were on a road trip across the country and went out of our way to try out this place. Didn’t disappoint!

Very good with great crisp, perfect thickness of crust, and good sauce and cheese. Very little grease but only complaint would be the under carriage needs some more crisp to it but overall if I lived here and go there at least once a week. Square cuts were also good with a variety. Next time I go I would also try the pepperoni rolls.

Great sheet pizza. Light buttery crust, cupping pepperonas a plus. Canned mushrooms a minus. Pizza by the square makes it a great deal too.

This is a tough one for me. I really want to love Virgil’s. I really do. The owner is a super nice guy who seems like a huge pizza nerd and he’s always tinkering with new things, trying out different ways to level up his pizza game. The dough is fresh, everything seems fresh. I can definitely see the passion behind this. It’s a light, fresh pizza but maybe that’s my problem with it since I grew up on trash pizza with tons of sugar in the sauce and overloaded with an obscene amount of cheese so I’ve acquired a taste for heavy trash pizza. I can definitely see what the fuss is about, but I think it might just be too grown up for me. It comes down to a matter of preference, not quality because the quality is clearly there. It’s not you, Virgil’s, it’s me. They do have a more traditional round pie as well as a bread pan pizza, but this square-cut Ohio Valley style is their signature approach to pizza so that’s what I went with.

Absolutely incredible pizza. Went with the margherita here and it paid off. Great crunch on the crust with amazing sauce and toppings.

Square pizza was incredibly good. Sauce was better on the squares than the round, it packed way more of a punch. The crust was buttery and delicious and the pepperonis were plump and flavorful. I’m going to be thinking about this pizza for awhile.

Wow this place is really good. I have been asking to go here the last 3 times I’ve been in Erie, but it finally worked out this time! This pizza was so fresh, there was absolutely no grease at all. The sauce was really good and paired well with the crisp undercarriage and crust. I brought this home to some friends and it got rave reviews from lifelong Erie residents. I don’t really have anything bad to say about this place it just wasn’t the best pizza I’ve ever had. This place is well worth the hype.

I'm from northeast PA where Dave hit all the pizza spots and have high reviews. This spot is definitely worth ordering. The wife ordered half pepperoni but it came all pepperoni. Not complaining just giving the review. Nice and light with great flavor. I did see the local critic give a 9.5 which I'm sure is spot on for him but closer to the Dave scale I have to go 8.6 which again is an amazingly solid score. Great sauce, great crust, great pizza. As Dave would say.... .. 8.6 that's the review.

Roman style. Whatever cheese is sprinkled on top is the X factor. Super thin and crispy crust. Solid pie.

Just a great pie.

One bite everybody knows the rules. This is an ok pizza. The cheese is light, the sauce is very tangy. The crust is good and chewy but it has cornmeal on the bottom which is odd. For $11 a pie it’s not bad.

There’s a lot of hype around Virgil’s Plate right now, and I have to admit....it lived up to it! Great pie! Unique, homemade vibe to it. I’ve been trying to hit the best places around, and this one was definitely a high priority, and it did not disappoint!

We love this place. We ordered and picked up a little late in this picture and my wife added a little of her own cheese (unnecessary) for the reheat. It was deliciously always.

Pretty solid za. Very crispy. The pic is buff chicken. Also loved the margherita.

7.1 does everything right and nothing great.
