Pizza Review
It's been a long time since I ate pizza in a pizzeria. I heard good things about a local place under new ownership, so I thought I would give it a try. And while I'm there, why not give it a ONE BITE review (also been a long time). Well as you can see, I gave this place a rookie score of 7.0 and that's for a few reasons. Reason 1, all over social media, the place is still listed under the previous pizzeria name, Alfredo's. The name of this place is Mario's Pizza & Cucina. The address is the same, but the telephone is now 929-362-055 (Rookie 929 area code for North Flushing). Now, I made a rookie blunder of my own when I ordered. I ordered 2 regular slices and 1 Sicilian at the same time, and I said please make them hot. As result, the 2 regular slices and the 1 Sicilian were taken out of the oven at the same time. (Sicilian needs longer to get hot than a regular slice of course.) So I got 2 hot slices and 1 warm Sicilian. Again, my mistake for being off my pizza game after being sidelined for 2.5 years because of Covid. Well let's get to the pizza. The FIRST BITE of the regular slice gets my rookie score of 7.0. A little too much cheese. The cheese a little too salty. Not enough sauce. The crust had a nice crunch, but it was a bit too thick and uneven. The slice was on the small side. The Sicilian, which I made another rookie mistake of eating second, was barely warm by the time I took my first bite. The Sicilian was a center, which I requested, was a large. This time, the crust for the Sicilian the was too thin. The cheese had turned into a sheet because it was not hot, and the sauce had not mixed in at all with the cheese. Overall, the regular slice was better than the Sicilian, and the score I gave was based on the regular slice. I plan on going back. The location is great. It's in a relaxing residential neighborhood near Bowne Park. The place looks clean and has adequate seating. I went at lunch time, about 12:30, and there was no chaos in the place.I was able to sit down and enjoying my pizza. The cost of 2 regular slices, 1 Sicilian, and 1 bottle of Pepsi was $12.72. As expected, the pizza ordered was a reheat and not straight out of the oven. That's my review.
