Pizza Review
Ok Frankie we are at Factory Girl @ 193 Danforth Ave in Toronto (pizza review time June 15th 12:30pm)... meaning to come here for a while ... hard to see the place until you’re standing right in front of it and in these Covid times they ask that you Please call ahead at 647 352 2799 or order online at factorygirlrestaurant.com to order take-out———-> Factory Girl is named after a Rolling Stones song. Great tune. Factory Girl is also a Gastropub in Toronto with exceptional food served in a great atmosphere and they also serve a pizza —-> and that’s what brought us here today—-> Factory Girl has quickly become a favourite place to eat on The Danforth. Every item on the menu is prepared with the finest ingredients by their experienced kitchen staff. The menu features fresh pasta with homemade sauces. Mouth watering Neapolitan style pizza cooked in their wood oven - as that is what we are here to try today—-> and seeing how they also feature a selection of pub favourites all prepared to the highest standards we also bought a steak sandwich for a bonus review.... their bar has a large selection of beer on tap and a wine list featuring 40 wines by the bottle, with 16 served by the glass. All red wine by the glass is served at 18 degrees and stored in their wine preservation system, making for a great glass of wine every time. Factory Girl is a dynamic restaurant with 3 comfortable dining areas, a great stool bar, a beautiful backyard patio that rivals any patio in the city and a cozy patio on Danforth avenue that is perfect for people watching. Factory Girl is easily located on the fabulous west part of Danforth avenue, a couple minutes walk east of Broadview. Factory Girl invites you to experience their great food and genuine hospitality. So to re-cap they specialize and feature in Brunch, Casual Dining, Different Daily Specials, Terrace, Patio, Fully licensed, Full Dinner Menu and are known locally as a Gastropub that serves all kinds of food including Pasta and what brought us here today—-> Pizza -> one bite everyone knows the rules —> What do we think about places that serve pizza that have many items on the menu? Well we are always left wondering if the time would be taken on the pizza especially seeing how they have a proper wood-burning oven... because @ first glance? -> it looks like a proper fancy pizza.... but at first taste ? Sauce is sweet but bland - definitely homemade but missing the kick —-> as you know ... usually Neapolitan Pizza is rated around 7 out of 10 because it’s what el’presidente would call a fancy pizza and thus this type of pizza has a unique scoring scheme behind it — there’s a little lesson in pizza scoring rules —> now back to the review.. undercarriage and actually overall pizza has good char ... dough bubbles were there .... seriously hot oven needed to create those bubbles ..... but when it had zero flop? we were concerned ... was it over cooked ? or worse ? cheap ingredients!!! The dough reminded us of PIZZANINI in the west end (a little) ... but PIZZANINI tasted slightly better and I believed we scored it a 5.2... but that was not a pizza ... it’s was a PANINI ... and the Factory Girl Pizza has that similar vibe ( some would call it a flat bread pizza Frankie - we wouldn’t - some would - we wouldn’t)...we try them all and we score them fair and square — we never let them know we are coming and we try them so you don’t have to ... we score em 1 to 10 / one bite / everyone knows the rules / bite it / score it -> 1 thru 10 -> here we go... this pizza is not great and between two people sampling ! not one single slice was finished and the rest of the pie went in the garbage—> never in our history of pizza reviews has this ever happened... whatever that was? that is not a Neapolitan Pizza ... it may look like one .... but these chefs have actually created the perfect replica of what appears to be a Neapolitan Pizza ... but it’s not ... it’s just a flat bread - dare we say- over cooked dough that can’t be swallowed by the human mouth - it just wads up in the mouth ... dry Frankie ? is an understatement... if you were really drunk you might be fooled -> but no way is anyone sober mistaking this pizza for a true Neapolitan Pizza ... we are sorry but not sorry —> you see we rate places fair and square and the last thing we want to do in this Covid time is trash hard working peoples establishments ... but this is not a pizza .... it’s a panini and we rate pizza (and sadly to add insult to injury) ... it’s not a great panini either .... all things being equal and taken into consideration as we take these reviews very seriously ~> all wrapped into one ! 5.1 (professional score) It’s not very good at all and it’s not a Neapolitan Pizza ... it’s a Neapolitan ‘Style’ lookalike Pizza but it’s really only a flatbread pizza ... that has a microwave pizza appeal -> type vide to it ... it’s really tragic that they ACTUALLY have a wood burning oven and they use cheap ingredients like this ... BUT ALL IS NOT LOST the place has all the makings to make a great pizza but as you can tell.... when you spread the menu so thin -> it’s hard to focus in on any one single item and slowly costs get cut - recipes get optimized and then next thing you know you are so far away from the original recipe that it’s no longer an authentic Italian pizza recipe.... and like we always say —> there’s no shame in throwing away the recipe - that’s what Papa John’s did —-> and that is a lesson in business kids .... Factory Girl Pizza it’s not as good as PIZZANINI (as that got a 5.2) and for a bonus review we got the steak sandwich... great quality pub style steak sandwich btw...... with thinly sliced sirloin Grilled Steak + Cheese, cremini, mushrooms, caramelized onion, gruyere, creamy horseradish on sourdough bread ... great sandwich we will go 8.1 on the sandwich and 5.1 on the Pizza — ! Great Place! Great Food ! Great Service ! What more can you ask for ? Just Better pizza ... they got the oven ... redo the recipe ... charge more than $12 for the pie ... and make it a football type pizza -> to fit the bar ... fancy pizza at a bar isn’t the best concept to begin with but ‘fake’ fancy panini pizza at a bar is unacceptable... Factory Girl Pizza 5.1 (that’s actually more of a flatbread panini than a pizza -> so that’s a generous score) and that’s a review!
